Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

DigitalSand has no accounts, comments, forms or newsletter, so it never asks for your name or email address. What it does collect is anonymous: Google Analytics counts visits and clicks on buy links. A few other companies receive basic request data, such as your IP address and browser, when a page loads a font or an image from their servers.

What Google Analytics records

Every page loads Google Analytics, which records which pages you visit, how you arrived, your approximate location, and your device and browser. It sets cookies only if you accept them. Until then it sends cookieless pings, which count a visit without linking it to your other visits. When you click a buy link, the site also sends an affiliate_click event that records the product, the retailer, the link and the page you clicked it on.

I use these reports to see which pages people read and which links they follow. They don’t tell me who you are, and I don’t combine them with anything else. Google’s handling of this data is covered by its privacy policy.

Cookies

The first time you visit, a panel asks whether Google Analytics may set cookies. Reject keeps them off, and the site works the same either way. Your answer is stored in your browser under the key ds-consent, so the panel doesn’t ask again; Cookie settings, at the foot of every page, reopens it to change your answer.

The site sets no advertising cookies, and it tells Google Analytics not to use your visits for advertising.

Services that receive request data

Loading a page here also sends a request to these services. Each one receives your IP address and browser details, as every web request does:

ServiceWhenWhat it serves
AWS AmplifyEvery pageThe site itself
Google FontsEvery pageThe site’s typefaces
YouTubePages with a video, as the video scrolls into viewThe video player, from youtube-nocookie.com

The player comes from youtube-nocookie.com, which sets no YouTube cookies until you press play.

Amazon links on this site are paid links: as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you follow one, Amazon and its partners may set and read cookies in your browser to credit the referral. Amazon’s privacy notice, linked at the foot of every Amazon page, covers what happens there. Amazon’s reports to me show what was bought through the links, never who bought it.

A kit’s “Add these to an Amazon cart” link puts those products in your own Amazon cart. Nothing is bought until you check out on Amazon.

What stays in your browser

If you switch between the light and dark themes, the site stores your choice in your browser’s local storage, under the key ds-theme. That and your cookie answer are the only two things it stores there, and neither leaves your device.

How to limit what’s collected

  • Block Google Analytics with a content blocker, or with Google’s opt-out add-on.
  • Choose Reject in the cookie panel, or open Cookie settings at the foot of any page to change your answer.
  • Clear or block cookies for this site in your browser settings. The site works the same without them.
  • Leave videos unplayed: until you press play, YouTube sets no cookies.
